Can I add water to my beef stew?
While water is wonderful for a great many things, broth or stock will add a wonderful depth of flavor to your stew.
How much liquid do you put in a stew?
The Broth – We usually use about 4 cups of broth and then top it off with just enough water to cover the meat and veggies. Our favorite ratio is 2 cups of beef stock and 2 cups of chicken stock – we find all beef stock to be a little intense and all chicken stock to be a little thin, so we split the difference.

Does apple juice tenderize beef?
Other juices work well, too. Apple juice is a common one that adds sweetness. I add it to my usual pineapple juice, or sometimes use the apple juice by itself. Figs also act as a tenderizer as well as they contain ficin, another meat tenderizing enzyme, and give good flavor as well.
Is Apple a tenderizer?
You can use natural fruit juices that are as effective as a meat tenderizer powder. Enzymes and acids present in fruit pulps/juices help break down tough connective tissues. These can make the meat tender and juicy.
Do you put vinegar on steak?
Just add a tablespoon or two of white vinegar to your cooking liquids and your roasts, stew meats, and steaks will come out tender and juicy every time. Another option is to pierce your meat all over with a fork and then soak it in vinegar for an hour or two before you cook it.
Does lemon juice tenderize steak?
Lemons are highly acidic, making them a great meat tenderizer. A thick coating of lemon juice applied one hour before cooking will draw water from the meat, thus, improving the meat's texture. Adding too much of this marinade could actually toughen the meat.
