How do you make ground beef soft?
When browning ground beef (or pork), add about 1/2 cup of tomato juice or sauce per pound to the raw meat. Cook as usual. Results in a softer meat with no clumping. I often drain and use the juice from a can of tomatoes that is part of the recipe anyway.
Can you simmer ground beef?
Ground beef cooked properly is moist, juicy and flavorful. Simmering it at low heat almost guarantees good results. Brown the meat slightly and drain off any excess fat.
Can you simmer beef too long?
Yes, it is possible to overcook a beef stew. As much as we like the idea of a stew that sits on the stove all day long, too much time will result in dry beef and mushy veggies. It depends on how much stew you're actually making, but the sweet spot is about 2–3 hours.
How long should you simmer beef?
Cook over medium-high heat, scraping the pan with a wooden spoon to loosen any browned bits. Add the beef, beef broth and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a slow simmer. Cover and cook, skimming broth from time to time, until the beef is tender, about 1 1/2 hours.
Do you salt ground beef before cooking?
Salt removes water from and dissolves some of the meat proteins, causing them to bind the insoluble proteins together—something good for the springy bite to sausages, not for a tender burger. So wait to salt your burgers until just before they hit the pan or grill.
