How do you steam frozen tamales on the stove?
Soak a dish towel in hot water and gently wring out some of the water. Place the damp towel over the tamales and cover the pot with a lid. Turn the stovetop to a high heat and allow the tamales to steam for an hour. The towel will help to trap in the moisture and prevent the tamales from drying out.
Do you microwave tamales in the corn husk?
Simply place your well-thawed tamales with the corn husk still on and steam. For those who don't own a steamer, you can still achieve soft tamales using a microwave. Take a damp paper towel and wrap it around the tamales. Place them in the microwave for three to five minutes!
Can you fix soggy tamales?
The best way to do this is by taking out one tamale and opening up the husk - if the masa is mushy and has stuck to the husk, they need longer to cook. Remember to allow them to cool in their husk encasements for 5-15 minutes afterwards so they can set properly.
Are you supposed to eat the husk of a tamale?
Eat your tamale with a fork and knife. Be sure to remove the wrapper entirely from tamales steamed in corn husks. While plantain leaves are edible (though they're not usually consumed with the tamales), corn husks aren't, and could cause choking or an upset stomach if swallowed.
Can you reuse corn husks?
If you soak them but did not use them, shake any excess of water, pat them dry again and let them finish off drying on the counter before packing them away. As a rule of thumb, husks are not reusable.
