Is Thai food safe for peanut allergy?
Of all the Asian cuisines, Thai food is particularly peanut rich. The legumes are used for flavoring, thickening, and garnishing many dishes, such as pad thai rice noodles. Cross contamination can be an issue for those with allergies when it comes to Asian cooking techniques.
Is Thai food made with peanut oil?
Thai cooks commonly use coconut oil, palm oil, peanut oil, or soybean oil; traditionally, lard was also used in Thai cooking. These types of oil are low-smoke, as is desirable for frying or grilling, and they do not break down quickly. Peanut oil is often used for stir-frying and deep-frying.
Can you be allergic to Pad Thai?
Pad Thai used to be one of my favorite foods, until my allergies to fish, shellfish, and wheat blew up. In its traditional form, this is one of the world's most allergenic foods since it contains wheat/gluten, soy, fish, shellfish, eggs and peanuts.
Can you eat pad thai with a shellfish allergy?
In fact, depending on the severity of your allergy, you should consider avoiding some types of restaurants and cuisines because of the high risk of cross-contamination. These include: Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, or Malaysian foods, which often include a fish sauce made from shrimp or imitation shellfish.
Does Thai food have egg?
Although fish sauce is more commonly used in Thai dishes, egg is commonly used in all fried rice dishes and almost every noodle dish. Moreover, you must tell your waiter you do not want egg in any of your noodles or fried rice dish. Some common noodle dishes with eggs are Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodles.
Do Thai noodles contain egg?
While it's obvious that items like “eggrolls” contain eggs, there are also eggs in many other Thai dishes, such as wontons, yellow noodles, and the popular “Pad Thai.” If you're unsure, double-check that your meal doesn't use eggs as a topping or garnish and that your noodles or crispy appetizer are similarly egg-free!
