What can you add to broccoli?
Toss broccoli with thyme, garlic salt, olive oil and lemon juice. Put broccoli on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Lemon slices are optional, but they do make it look so pretty and add another dimension of lemon flavor!
What is raw broccoli good with?
Raw broccoli holds up well to salads dressed with light oil dressings, which provide less fat than mayonnaise-based or creamy dressings. Mix broccoli heads with other vegetables such as tomatoes, squash and zucchini for a good mix of vitamins and minerals.
Why is my broccoli salad bitter?
Nothing in the ingredient list or prep method seems to imply that the broccoli would be bitter. It could be a chemical reaction with one of the ingredients that might have been in less than good condition (perhaps from the supplier.)
Why is my raw broccoli bitter?
Bitterness occurs when the broccoli heads become overripe or when they are cooked improperly. Storing and preparing the broccoli correctly prevents the broccoli heads from becoming bitter, as overcooking brings out the bitter flavor in broccoli.
Why does my home grown broccoli taste bitter?
When soil and air temperatures get too hot, broccoli will start to bolt and flower prematurely. This will cause a bitter flavor in the heads. Even if the heads are small, you should harvest them if they show signs of early bolting. That way, you still get something from the plant.
