Do you have to soak lentils before pressure cooking?
There's no need to soak lentils before cooking in the pressure cooker. (This is true for all legumes cooked in a pressure cooker; it's one of the many benefits of a pressure cooker.)
How can I make my dhal thicker?
You can easily thicken the dal by simmering it a bit more (uncovered, of course), or thin it out a bit with some extra water. If you'd like to make it smoother (and the dal is already completely tender), just whisk it a few times. Some recipes tell you to puree the dal in a blender, but I rarely do so.
How do I make lentils thicker?
If things get a bit too thick: Often times lentil (or other bean soups) will substantially thicken up, especially overnight; if this happens and the soup becomes a bit too thick, simply thin it out with a little water or stock.
How long does it take for DAL to cook in pressure cooker?
Set according to your model's setting for beans/legumes (about 7 minutes), or on the stove top, cook on high pressure for about 5 minutes. Allow the dal to release pressure for about 10 minutes during which time, the chana dal will continue to cook.
What is 3 whistles on a pressure cooker?
of whistles and hasn't been effectively converted to time yet. From my personal experience in cooking dal, 3-4 whistles corresponded to 5-6 mins on low heat after the pressure cooker reached full pressure. So perhaps 2 minutes under pressure will be a good place to start. Approximately 3 minutes is 1 whistle.
