Who invented garlic knots?
Some say a Queens pizzeria invented the garlic knot in 1973 to avoid food waste. However, Anthony Sette, the owner of Anthony's Place in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, says “garlic rolls” – a precursor to garlic knots – were served by his restaurant's former occupants in 1947.
Do you pass to the left or right at the table?
Pass the food to the right (counterclockwise), unless the person is sitting next to you, directly to your left, and you can just hand the food to them. This method is a long-standing etiquette tradition, but it also keeps the table-passing running smoothly, without collisions.
Where does the napkin go when leaving the table?
The napkin is loosely folded at the end of the meal. If a plate is in the center of your place setting, when leaving the table lay the napkin to the left of the plate. If the center of your place setting is empty, the napkin is laid in the middle of the place setting.
Should you put your fork down between bites?
The fork should always be facing the plate, so the knife can be used to scoop food into the fork when necessary. It's also polite to put down utensils in between each bite, so be sure to rest your knife and fork on your plate as you chew.
