Is Chilli a Flavour?
Pungency is often quantified in scales that range from mild to hot. The Scoville scale measures the pungency of chili peppers, as defined by the amount of capsaicin they contain. Pungency is not considered a taste in the technical sense because it is carried to the brain by a different set of nerves.
Why is spicy is not a taste?
So, technically speaking, spiciness is not a taste because it is not produced by taste buds and the nerve that carries the "spicy" signals to the brain is the trigeminal nerve whereas taste sensations are carried via the facial, glossopharyngeal, and vagus nerves.
What is the least hottest chilli?
The mildest peppers such as sweet bell peppers and cherry peppers are at the bottom of the Scoville scale. In the middle are peppers like Serrano, yellow hot wax peppers, and red cayenne peppers. At the hottest end of the heat scale are the Habanero and the Scotch Bonnet.
