How do you reheat leftover crab?
There is no appreciable loss of quality from reheating. In order to reheat crab, place a steamer basket in a large pot with enough water to reach the bottom of the basket. Once the water is boiling, place the crabs inside, season and cover. Steam the crabs for five minutes or until the meat is hot throughout.
Why are crab legs already cooked?
King Crab Legs are already cooked when you purchase them as they are cooked on the fishing boats or immediately upon landfall to preserve freshness (the crab is caught, cooked, then blast frozen to preserve its fresh taste). Because of this, King Crab need only to be adequately heated before eating.
Can you buy crab legs and freeze them?
Crab can be frozen for up to three months before beginning to lose its flavor, though Dungeness crab should not be frozen for more than one month and Alaskan king crab legs should not be frozen for more than six months.
Is it better to freeze crab cooked or raw?
It's best to freeze crab in the shell, or in preparations such as crab cakes or casseroles up to three months. Without the protection of the shell or other ingredients, frozen crabmeat loses its tender texture and becomes stringy. Cook whole crab before freezing, and never thaw and then refreeze.
