Is it cheaper to buy or make chicken stock?
The value of the stock really comes down to the cost of the ingredients that you use to make it. From a financial standpoint, stock is really only worth it when you're using scraps, such as leftover vegetable pieces or bones.
Should you make your own stock?
By making your own stock, you can control the amount of sodium for taste and dietary preferences. Also, salty stock that's been reduced into a sauce, gravy, soup, or dish that includes other salty ingredients (like cured meat, cheese, or croutons) can become way too overpowering.
What do you use stock cubes for?
Knorr Stock Cubes This iconic Knorr product is traditionally dissolved in hot water to make a stock which can be used for soups – such as my Chicken Broth – gravy, sauces or risottos. I often use this stock as the cooking medium for pasta or vegetables, at is gives that extra flavour dimension.
What can I use if I run out of stock cubes?
If you are out of stock and bouillon cubes, you can still proceed with the recipe. One option is to use a dry white wine. If a recipe calls for one bouillon cube dissolved into one cup of water, replace the cube and 1/4 of the water with 1/4 cup of white wine.
