Can I use a pressure cooker as a pressure canner?
The National Center for Home Food Preservation advises against using a pressure cooker for canning. There are just too many different makes, models and brands and most are not as accurate as the manufacturer may claim. So the bottom line is that a pressure cooker is just built for cooking – not canning.
Why is putting stoppers in test tubes dangerous?
Also, never stopper or plug a test tube that contains any mixture that will release gases (e.g., acetic acid + sodium bicarbonate). Pressure buildup can cause bursting of the tube or ejection of the stopper, leading to injury.
Why is the metal heated in a dry test tube rather than just putting it straight into the boiling water?
1. The metal was heated in a dry test tube instead of in the boiling water in order not to get it wet and eventually transferring unwanted water mass.
Why do we heat the test tube in a water bath and not directly over the flame?
It is also used to enable certain chemical reactions to occur at high temperature. Water baths are preferred heat sources for heating flammable chemicals, as their lack of open flame prevents ignition.
Why is the boiling tube put in a conical flask?
During the cooling of the naphthalene the boiling tube must be placed in a conical flask in order to prevent the super cooling occur and allow the even cooling of the naphthalene.
